I used to get all weirded out when someone would ask me where my bf and I met. I couldn't possibly say we met online, so we'd stretch the truth a little (or lie, however you want to look at it), stating we met through a friend. To have some older folks tell it, only crooks and connivers get down with online dating and I didn't feel like battling a bunch of "have you had a background check run on him" questions and glaring side-eye glances.Thing is, most of my previous relationships came courtesy of mutual friends, similar social groups and "my cousin would be perfect for you!" phone calls.
Over time, I - along with anyone else who had a qualm with my online love - had to get over it. It's cool beans to see that celebs are taking the plunge and sharing a similar sentiment. Check out actress Essence Atkins' take concerning her recent star-studded nuptials to financial exec Jaime Mendez, whom she met on Match.com -
“I met most of the people I had been in relationships with through other people. When you do that you tend to meet people who are connected to your field. I wanted to go outside of that social circle. Being in relationships with other artists can be strangely competitive,” explains the bride.
